Central Otago - New Zealand
Apart from the outright beauty and raw wildness of Central Otago, it is a region of great diversity. In both a climatic and cutural sense, this part of New Zealand is full of paradox. Hot and cold, in a relative way, wet and dry in the same. It's cultural history is based on survival under extreme conditions and now it's vinous landscape offers an insight into it's subtlety and finesse. From a grapegrowing and winemaking perspective it is small, 2000 hectares of planted land as of 2021, yet vast, covering sub-regions from Wanaka to Bannockburn, Bendigo to Gibbston, it is a veritable tapestry of grape growing microclimates.
Intense Lime with guava and ripe finger limes with hints of lavender and gardenia. Crystalline white florals and a hint of blue and purple flowerbeds. Some very subtle mango Weiss bar over light herbal hints with lemon verbena and spearmint, almost Alpine herb like. The palate is full with a generous texture and wide silky texture, softer acidity adding a slippery line.
Elegance with complexity are the hallmarks of this wine. Enticing dark cherry and a layer of brown spice with subtle leafy herbs fill the aroma. The primary fruit lift is only enhanced by the subtle whole bunch spice.
